Last week I had the pleasure of being interviewed by the lovely Girls About Town on Swindon 105.5 radio. I was discussing the importance of having a Will in place and came up with some common questions that I am asked by my clients. You can listen to the interview here.

ARE WILLS ONLY FOR OLDER PEOPLE?

One of the things that you can do in your Will is appoint legal guardians for your children who are under eighteen. So if you are a young family it is important to have a Will. Many people think it is something to think about only when they become “old” but that’s not the case.

WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE A WILL?

If you don’t have a Will then you cannot decide who you want to leave things to when you die. Laws decide for you and it might not be the outcome you want. To make sure you are doing what you want, have a Will drafted.

SHOULD I GET MY WILL DRAFTED BY A PROFESSIONAL?

I would say yes! They will make sure you have thought through all the possibilities and let you know if you need advice on inheritance tax. Wills can be simple or complex and you may not know the best way of making sure you get the outcomes you want without professional advice.

IS A LIVING WILL DIFFERENT TO A WILL?

Yes! They are completely different. A Will sets out what will happen when you die. A Living Will sets out your health and medical preferences whilst you are alive. So if you have a Living Will already you still need a Will.

These are just a few of the things we discussed but please do contact me here if you would like more information or advice on drafting your Will.
